생을 대상으로 하는 Graduate Student Research Competition 행사를 알버타

대학 Markin/CNRL Natural Resources Engineering Facility 에서 개최하였습

니다. 이번 행사의 취지와 목적은 아래와 같습니다 . z to give graduate students the opportunity to share their research ideas and results that provides visibility for their work z to give graduate students the opportunity to meet with and interact with other graduate student peers and professionals to share ideas, gain new insights, and understand possible practical applications z to give graduate students an opportunity to sharpen their communication skills, including visual, organizational, oral, and aural modalities z to provide detailed feedback to graduate students about their research and presentation, from a panel of distinguished judges from academia and government to recognize and reward outstanding graduate students

이 행사에는 University of Alberta Korean Graduate Student Association 학 생들이 참석을 하였으며 그 외에도 알버타 대학 학부 한인 학생회인 KSEA 와 알버타 대학 한인 Engineering 학생 회인 CoEns 임원진 및 member들이 행사에 같이 참석하여 volunteer로 행사진행을 도왔으며 대학원생들의 발표 를 통해서 Presentation skill을 배울 수 있는 기회를 가졌으며 또 관심 있는 학문분야의 학부생과 대학원생들간의 discussion 의 장을 마련할 수 있는 좋 은 기회였습니다 .

알버타 대학 류성렬 교수님 (Department of Renewable Resources)과 강성태 교수님 (Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering) 께서 evaluator 로서 수고해주셨고 또한 Plenary Talk으로 참석한 학생들을 대상으로 한 대 학원 생활을 성공적으로 하는 방법과 효율적인 Presentation skill에 대해 발 표를 해주셨습니다 .

그리고 알버타 대학에서 최근 박사학위를 마치고 알버타 대학에 Post doc. 과정에 있는 홍사현 박사가 invited talk 을 하였습니다 .

총 8명의 학생이 abstract을 submission 하고 evaluation team 의 review를통 해 6명의 학생들이 선발되어 발표를 가졌습니다. 각 학생당 발표시간은 35 분으로 presentation, Q/A 그리고 evaluation comments로 구성 되었습니다 . 오후 1시에 registration으로 시작된 행사는 저녁 발표자 및 참석자들의 열 띤 토론과 또 evaluator들의 값진 comment들로 채워져 행사 종료시간 6시 보다 2시간 더 연장된 저녁 8시에 종료가 되었습니다 .

발표 evaluation 크게 두 가지 항목으로 나뉘어 다음과 같은 항목에 의거하여 공정하게 평가 되었습니다 : (1) Presentation of the research and the student's oral discussion (30%), and (2) the research, specifically its quality, novelty, and significance of the contribution (e.g. contribution to the field of the work and Clarity of written presentation).

최종 우승자는 공동 수상으로 윤지현 학생과 김천일 두 명의 학생이 영광을 수상을 하였습니다. 최종 우승자에게는 상금으로는 각각 $250 의 상금이 수여되었습니다.

학생들의 발표가 끝난 후 networking dinner 시간을 가져 유익한 시간이 되 었습니다.

이번 행사 Award ceremony에는 지난 AKCSE 장학생으로 선발된 김 천일 학생의 장학금 수여식도 같이 치러져 모든 학생들이 함께 축하해주는 시간 을 가졌습니다 .

끝으로 이번 행사를 개최하도록 지원해주신 AKCSE 회장님 이하 head quarter에 감사 드리며 향후 이러한 행사가 지부 활성화를 위한 행사로 자 리매김 할 수 있도록 지속적인 지원 부탁 드립니다 .
