KCSSF Scholarship
To (주)녹십자 목암과학장학재단,
Since I was very young. I've always wanted to be involved with the healthcare field. I saw how every peoples' lives were special and unique in every way. I've met and befriended the homeless, hung out with down-syndrome children and shared life experiences with the elderly residents in intensive care units. No matter who I met or where I met them, I knew their lives were just as special as mine. I've considered many typical options in the health care profession: Pharmacists, doctors, optometrist, dentists, nurses, physiotherapists and more. At first, I applied and was accepted to pharmacy just to get some 'insurance" for my future- I've heard that pharmacists have very stable and well-paid jobs in Canada. However, the more I got to know about the profession, the more I fell in love with it. The number of pharmaceutical industries, hospitals and their influences in the Canadian society were greater than I've imagined. Preventing medication errors, finding right drug therapy for patients, and becoming the front line man in the health care setting eventually became my long-term dream. In pursuing my dream as a clinical pharmacist, I've been trying my best in schools, clubs, extra-curricular and volunteer work to build my character and develop new skills. However, the financial burden always overwhelmed me. Having an ox like stubborn personality, I've refused my parent's offer in paying for my tuition by the sake of independence. I knew my parents would face great financial burden in supporting me with my 4 perhaps 7 years if I pursue PharmD Degree and residency. I am greatly honoured to have been awarded 2010 Green Cross Scholarship and I assure you that this will help me greatly in pursuing my dreams. I know want to pursue my dream to the fullest knowing that great supporters of education like yourselves are looking out for future health care professionals like me. I am going to finish my Bsc in Pharmacy in 2013 and hopefully will pursue hospital residency somewhere in Vancouver and after residency, I will strive to complete the PharmD program which will allow me to specialize in hospital pharmacy. The road to my dream is still a quite long and rough; however, because of this award I will be able to pursue it with much burdens lifted. I offer my sincere thanks to your generous support.
Sincerely,
Brian Kim
